July 2021 - Present, Motivation

While maintaining our regular meetings at Pepys Community Centre, we began to work with Jorella in the Department of Visual Cultures at Goldsmiths to document the eleven-year history of our group and to tell our members’ individual stories. Using textiles and embroidery, we created four large blankets which we now call 'The Red Ribbon Living Well Free Travelling Blankets'. During this period, we met regularly in the Department’s BA Curating Room. This brought our members together, helped us to imagine ourselves differently, and to overcome stigma. It made us feel that we are part of society. It was a place for creativity and to experience ourselves in a positive manner.

About Red Ribbon Living Well

Red Ribbon Living Well (RRLW) is a community-led voluntary organisation supporting individuals affected by and living with HIV, mental health and family survivors of domestic violence in Lewisham and surrounding areas. The group was founded in 2009 by members who recognised the need for peer support in the community, and it has grown from its grass-roots beginnings.
